Crossed Garters Phone/iPod bag

I used 2 colors of DK weight yarn (bamboo and mercerized cotton) and a 3.5mm hook and got a guage of 6dc per inch. Guage, yarn weight and hook size are not very important though, just pick a suitable hook for your yarn. This pattern is basically Crossed Garters II stitch from The Ultimate Sourcebook of Knitting and Crochet Stitches adjusted to work in the round.

In color 1: Chain 28 (add or subtract in multiples of 4 to adjust to your phone/iPod) Row 1: ch 1, sc in next ch, sc around, ss with first ch to join in the round Row 2: ch3(counts as a dc), dc around, do not join in the round yet

In color 2: ss last dc with the top of the ch3 to join in the round

Row 3: ch1, sc next 2 dc *ch1, skip next dc, sc in next 3 dc* repeat around until 1dc remains, ch1, ss with first ch to join Row 4: ch3(counts as a dc), dc around, do not join in the round yet In color 1: ss last dc with the top of the ch3 to join in the round Row 5: ch1 *work 1 dtr into the next skipped dc 3 rows down, skip next dc, sc in next 3 dc* until 3dc remain, work 1 dtr into the next skipped dc 3 rows down, skip next dc, sc in next dc, ss with first ch to join Row 6: ch3(counts as a dc), dc around, do not join in the round yet In color 2: ss last dc with the top of the ch3 to join in the round Row 7: ch1, sc next 1 dc *ch1, skip next dc, sc in next 3 dc* repeat around until 2dc's remains, ch1, sc into next dc, ss with first ch to join Row 8: ch3(counts as a dc), dc around, do not join in the round yet In color 1: ss last dc with the top of the ch3 to join in the round Row 9: ch1 *sc in next 3 dc, work 1 dtr backwards into the previous skipped dc 3 rows down, skip next dc* until 4dc remain, sc into next 3 dc, work 1 dtr into the next skipped dc 3 rows down, ss with first ch to join Row 10: ch3(counts as a dc), dc around, do not join in the round yet

Repeat rows 3-10 (ending on either row 6 or 10) until bag is just long enough to cover your phone.

Row 7: ss with first ss to join, ch3(counts as a dc), dc around, ss with first dc to join in the round Row 8: sc around and tie off

Fold the bag closed with the seam up the center back. With the front facing you sc along the bottom edge to seam, tie off and weave in ends.

Make a chain twice as long as you want your strap to be. Using a tapestry needle or safety pin run the chain through the top row of dc's, over one dc, under the next, starting at one edge of the front to the other, then across the back. Tie the ends together, if you don't plan to add an embellishment, pull the knot under the dc's and sew it in at the back seam. If you do want to embellish it, sew in the knot where the embellishment will be.

Floral embellishment:

Make a magic loop with a 4-6" long tail Row 1: sc 5 into the loop, ss with first sc to join in the round Row 2: *ch2, ss into next sc* ss with first ch to join in the round Row 3: *ch 3, dc into the next ch, dc into the next ss, ss into the same ss* tie off

Weave the end into the center, together with the starting tail make a knot. Thread the ends into the bag and use them to anchor it and weave in.
